Plantation Management – Regulation and Planning
National - Australia
Legislation
Summary – National legislation
Australian legislation applies indirectly to plantation forestry, and particularly in relation to planning issues.
A significant impact of Australian legislation is the application of taxation and Corporations Law to the Managed Investment Scheme sector. Introducing variability or subjectivity into interpreting licensing requirements for companies to operate creates uncertainty, and potentially limits expansion and/or new entry of plantation developers into the marketplace.
The plantation industry is committed to working with the Australian agencies responsible for managing taxation and Corporations law issues: particularly through industry representative group Australian Plantation Products and Paper Council (A3P). A3P adopts a pro-active approach to identifying and managing issues of concern to regulators: this partnership approach is essential to ensure further plantation development, in turn delivering social, environmental and economic benefit to rural Australia.
