Private Forestry Model Planning Framework (PFMPF)
In 2002 the Local Government Association of Queensland developed the Private Forestry Model Planning Framework.
The PFMPF is designed to assist council Planning Officers, Consultant Planners, state Government Officers, Timber Industry Groups, Catchment Groups and private foresters, to provide an integrated approach to planning at both reigonal and local scales, with an emphasis on sustainable development. The PFMPF is designed as a complementary component ot the Queensland Forest Practices System.
The PFMPF aims to ensure that the potential benefits of private forestry are maximised by:
- clarifying the roles of the State and Local Government in relation to private forestry;
- encouraging Local Govenrment to support private forestry, and appropriately regulate only those features of private forestry that could limit the desired environmental, economic and social benefits as outlined within the planning scheme; and
- promoting a consistent set of provisions for IPA compliant planning schemes being developed by Local Government
