Plantation Planning Application Process
The Planning Approval Process for Plantation Development in Victoria
A Planning Permit Application Process may include the following steps:
- Complete Planning Application for relevant local government area
- Possibly include Environmental Management Plan
- May need to meet with referral authorities such as Department of Sustainability & Environment or the relevant CMA.
- May need to supply additional information e.g. maps, flora surveys, additional details relating to the proposed establishment operation
- May need to deal with or appeal against objections via local council or State processes e.g. Victorian Civil Appeals Tribunal, Planning & Environment List
- The time period to approve or resolve an application is not defined.

Plantation Development Notices are available on most local government and some private forestry development committee websites.

This Practice Note is to provide guidance to planning authorities about:
- the strategic work required to apply the Farming Zone, Rural Activity Zone, Rural Conservation Zone and Rural Living Zone, and
- the purposes and features of each zone and where they may be applied.
Sections that relate to plantation forestry are as follows:
